For the Sake of God's Children is a diocesan program whose purpose is to ensure the safety of children and youth in our schools, religious education programs and parish. All parish employees and volunteers who work with youth must obtain a background clearance. They also must view videos concerning child abuse and sign a Volunteer Covenant each year; the covenant outlines appropriate ways to interact with children and youth, and the appropriate use of social media.

For the Sake of God's Children Process
I. BACKGROUND CLEARANCE
- If you are a Catechist, Aide, Coordinator, chairperson or lead person of a ministry or employee, please obtain an entry code.
- Alternatively, you may contact Cathy Decrescenzo in the Religious Education Office (302-322-6430 x101).
- The cost for the clearance is $45.00. This fee is waived for catechists.
- Once you have a code, go online to: https://cdow.org/ministries/safe-environment/for-the-sake-of-gods-children/ and click the link for "Online Criminal Background Screening Application" to obtain your clearance.
- To apply as a Volunteer, click the "Volunteer" link. To apply as an Employee, click the "Employee" link.
- Use the "Entry Code" to submit clearance form that goes directly to investigating agency.
- Be sure to select "St Elizabeth Ann Seton" as the name of the parish or school where you intend to volunteer or coach. Every parish & school is listed in the drop down menu.
- Once the investigation is completed, a copy of the report will be sent to the Coordinator of Safe Environments, and a copy to the you for your personal records. The Coordinator of Safe Environments will then issue a clearance and send the confirmation and clearance certificate to the parish.
- Once you receive an email confirmation that the application was received, please forward it to Cathy Decrescenzo in the Religious Education Office so we can retain a copy in your file.
II. FOR THE SAKE OF GOD’S CHILDREN (FSGC) VIDEO
- Visit the Diocesan website: https://cdow.org/ministries/safe-environment/for-the-sake-of-gods-children/
- Click on the link to watch the Safe Environment Education videos.
- Watch all three of the FSGC videos, which total about 30 minutes in length.
- After viewing videos, click on the “Register with the FSGC office” link at the bottom of the page.
- Once you receive an email confirmation, please forward it to Cathy Decrescenzo in the Religious Education Office so we can retain a copy in your file.
